A plain-language AI glossary
Useful terms, without treating jargon as a guarantee.
- AI assistant
- A conversational tool that helps generate or process information. It is not a human reviewer or an approval authority.
- Language model
- A model that generates language using learned patterns and available context. Fluent output can still be wrong.
- Prompt
- The task instructions and context you provide for a response.
- Context
- The information available to the model for a particular response. Capacity is limited and varies by service.
- Context window
- The amount of information a model can work with at once. It is not an unlimited record of previous work.
- Token
- A small processing unit that may be a word part, punctuation or other representation. Token counts do not translate to a fixed page count.
- Memory
- A platform feature that may retain selected information across interactions. It does not guarantee complete or accurate recall.
- Project / workspace
- An organizational area that may group instructions, sources and chats, depending on the platform and account.
- Work Session
- For Ginny, a task chat inside the installed Project—not another product or another installation.
- System of record
- The approved place for authoritative records and decisions, rather than an unchecked AI conversation.
- Hallucination
- An AI-generated claim that is unsupported or incorrect, even when expressed confidently.
- Grounding
- Using identified sources as the basis for an answer. Source access and factual fidelity still need verification.
- Prompt injection
- Instructions embedded in untrusted material that try to redirect an assistant away from the authorized task.
- Connector / integration
- A supported tool connection to another service, subject to account availability, permissions and organizational approval.
- Manual mode
- A workflow in which you supply information through conversation, copy/paste or supported uploads.
- Connected mode
- A workflow that additionally uses supported, authorized integrations—not unrestricted access or autonomous approval.
- Handoff
- A reviewed summary of the current task, facts, decisions, sources and open items for continuing work carefully.
- Human review
- A person checking facts, appropriateness, permissions and approvals before output is used or an action is taken.
