Manual and Connected modes: access is not autonomy

Understand the difference between supplying information yourself and using explicitly authorized tools.

Manual: you provide the material

Manual workflows use conversation, copy/paste and supported uploads. You choose which authorized information to provide and where to save the approved output. The assistant does not gain access to an inbox, drive or property system merely because you mention it.

Manual does not mean that privacy stops mattering. Check the account and the content you share. Review the result before moving it into another system.

Connected: supported tools and explicit permissions

Connected workflows additionally use authorized integrations supported by the platform, plan and account permissions. Availability varies; do not assume a connection shown in a demonstration is available in your account or supported for every product.

A connection is not automatic access to everything, and product purchase is not permission to use an employer's systems. Review the requested scope, verify organizational approval and know how to revoke it. Ginny's public inbox guidance is on-request review, not continuous background monitoring.

Separate reading, preparing and acting

Reading a source, drafting a response and sending that response are different permissions and different risks. Confirm what a tool is about to do, which account it will use and what approval is required. Do not mistake a prepared draft for a sent message or a suggested update for a changed record.

Keep a review gate for recipients, attachments, facts, commitments and sensitive information. Check the actual result in the destination system after an authorized action rather than relying only on the assistant's narrative.

  • What specific service and account will be accessed?
  • What information will be read or shared?
  • Will this prepare a draft or change something?
  • Who must approve the action?
  • How will completion be verified?

Do not mix editions as a shortcut

Where your product provides Manual and Connected editions, follow its choose-one instructions. Do not install both, invent a connection or assume that switching modes guarantees continuity. Product-specific setup guidance takes precedence over general advice.

If a connection is unavailable, use only the alternatives explicitly supported by your product and approved policies. Do not provide passwords to bypass a missing integration.

Try it thoughtfully

For a fictional follow-up email, identify the source-reading step, draft step and send step separately. Decide what each would require in Manual mode and in an authorized Connected workflow.
